How to Draw Sports Cartoons
So then... where to begin?
With so many different kinds to choose from, it's a bit of a toss up as to which ones to focus on when creating lessons for the site. The plan then... we'll begin with some of the more popular kinds, and then - according to recommendations made in the Your Thoughts area, we'll branch out from there.
Now, as we know - most require the use of some kind of ball, equipment, gear, etc. A football helmet for American football, a birdie for badminton... each one's got it's respectful 'trademark' piece - instantly recognizable when drawn. So then, many lessons here will focus on some of the more popular objects.
Have a look at the drawing to the right. It's pretty obvious which one is which. But an even closer look reveals that each of these 'balls' can be simplified into one basic shape.
In many cases, playing a sport involves some sort of ball and so, if you can draw a circle - then hey... you can draw any of them! The focus in this case then is not so much on shape and size, but on the arrangement of lines that compose the interior of the circle -- those that make one a soccer ball and another... a volley ball.
Well, I'd say now's a good time to do some drawing. Sound good? Great. Let's take a time out and begin!
