Want to learn how to draw Jabba the Hutt?

Here in this cartoon drawing lesson - as voted by visitors to the site, let's go ahead and draw a unique take on this famous Star Wars villain...

One that certainly pays homage to the original - yet in the spirit of being creative and using our imagination...

Is actually quite unique!

...

As you can see in the finished example above, I've also included Salacious Crumb, a creature from his palace, on the planet Tatooine...

And one more thing...

Jabba has a lightsaber (red, which would make him a Sith), and can also use the force! :-)

Let's begin...

Here's How to Draw Jabba the Hutt, and Salacious Crumb

Starting which a simple selection of shapes - those which do a nice job of helping us visualize the form he takes on, before we go ahead and place our lines...

Sketch out something similar, and make sure they're light - perfect for easy erasing, soon after...

Switching over to a couple other colors: grey - to depict the angle and stance, each character is taking on, and green - to contrast between the different areas of the drawing, making things easier to see...

Here's how Jabba the Hutt and Salacious Crumb, look so far...

Just a few more details now, and we're all set for the lesson: How to Draw Jabba the Hutt!

First thing though, sketch in a few more things if you like. Marking off the lightsaber would be a good idea at this point, as when we begin drawing - we're going to find knowing its position ahead of time...

Will make it easier to draw the various parts of the character, in a sequence that is easiest.

Framework all finished?

If so - great!

If not - also great!

Really, I include these simple arrangement of shapes, so you can more easily visualize the creative process, tapping into the right brain as you go.

But of course...

If you don't need to use this - and really, it's great to practice both ways - then by all means, omit it.

So then, here's how to draw Jabba the Hutt - beginning with his mouth...

And next up - fading what we've just drawn (we'll do this each time) to grey --- it's on to the eyes...

Now, give Jabba the Hutt some pupils.

And also, given that part of the character will 'fall in behind' the lightsaber, it makes sense to draw the blade right now, making it easy to tackle the rest in the steps that follow...

And yes, now you can really see what I mean.

Lightsaber drawn first, sketching in the left arm, becomes just a tad simpler. You don't need to draw everything - only the portion that is not obscured by the lightsaber.

Like so...

Down and around to the left - keeping an eye on our second character soon-to-come - Salacious Crumb...

Sketch in the remaining parts of Jabba the Hutt (those of which make sense to draw at this point) - before we switch gears, and focus on Crumb...

On to our second character - Jabba the Hutt on hold, for the time being - go ahead and begin sketching Salacious Crumb, starting with his two black eyes, beak, and mouth...

Now bring his head into view...

And the feathery area, at the base of his neck...

On to the body now.

Note, part of his body (similar to Jabba the Hutt's - when we accounted for the lightsaber obscuring some areas)...

Is obscured by Jabba the Hutt's tail.

So we don't need to draw, a portion of his left hand, his left leg, and perhaps even - a bit of his right foot...

OK.

Salacious Crumb complete, now it's back to Jabba the Hutt.

Complete his tail, first...

And then back over to the right of the drawing - focusing on his head once again, and then out to his right hand, making a fist - and ready to use the Force!...
