How to Draw the Eye of Sauron

Eye of Sauron cartoon image

First glimpse at the cartoony Eye of Sauron, as depicted here - in the image above, and you may be wondering...

Why *and how!* is the tower (Barad-dur), bending over!?

And funny you should maybe ask...

While working away at this lesson - had tons of fun by the way!... I had a neat idea, part of the way through, to have the tower take on a more "character-like" form.

So no, a tower would obviously not bend like this. But here, in this imaginative world of drawing and creating...

Anything is possible!

Let's begin.

How to Draw the Eye of Sauron, Step by Step

So again, just have to say...

This was a really fun lesson to work away at. I love Lord of the Rings *so much!* - and always thought it would be neat, to create a cartoony simplification, of the main antagonist throughout Middle Earth...

Sauron!

So, to begin then - keeping things pretty simple - go ahead and sketch out a basic framework, nothing too crazy - and something that helps *cement in your mind ahead of time*...

What the Barad-dur might look, in your style - once finished.

Right.

So in the second part above, you can see that I've gotten to it - and began to place the pupil of the Eye of Sauron, as well as one side of the top of the tower.

Below - carrying on, and fading out what we've already draw - to grey...

Sketch in a few more key details up top, and then move on down to the bottom - slowly bringing into view, a really basic looking depiction of "evil-Sauron-looking" mini towers...

Little towers in place, you can see that next - I went back up top again, and began to bring forth some more details.

You know...

I looked at an actual depiction of Barad-dur, for a reference. But as I moved along with the drawing, I ended up changing some things, so that this drawing here - comes off as more of a cartoony "likeness" to the original.

A few spikes, and a big tooth like object below the eye... yup - a *bit* different than the original! :-)

OK, more now...

OK!

Isn't this just *SO MUCH FUN*!? I mean seriously...

Taking the biggest, baddest character from Lord of the Rings, and then in your own unique style, coming up with a whole new take on the character...

Drawing is the best.

So lots more little details here and there - yet not too much, because really - we're aiming for simplicity here, in the form of a cartoon...

And in the end - you've got a cool-looking (colored even!) Eye of Sauron cartoon character, one that looks to be peering at something, given the bend, as mentioned at the beginning.

So what's Sauron looking at?

Why, a tiny little moth - actually...

Perhaps even the same one, that saved Gandalf's life!

Well, hope you had fun with this lesson.

See you real soon, for another! :-)
