Drawing Day 2009
Drawing Day is a day where people drop everything they're doing and well... DRAW! World-wide and web-wide, every June, the goal is to see one million drawings created and displayed online in a single day.
This year we had a lot of fun here at DrawCartoonsOnline.com, by holding our second-ever Drawing Day event. Combined, visitors to the site came together to contribute over 100 new drawings for the occasion.
For this year's event, we decided to 'spice things up' a bit. By submitting drawings to the Drawing Day Gallery and Slide Show, participants had the chance to win some pretty cool drawing-related prizes... making things all the more fun! :-)
To take part in this year's Drawing Day event, here's what you needed to know and do:
- Create drawings on Saturday June 6th, 2009. Officially - due to the difference in time zones - the event will run from Friday, June 5th @ 12:00pm EST to Sunday, June 7th @ 4:00pm EST.
- Ensure that your drawings are in JPEG format. The file ending should be '.jpg'.
- Upload your drawing(s!) on Drawing Day using the submission form below.
Other important things:
- Submit as many drawings as you like!
- Ensure your drawings are tasteful. :-)
- Color your drawings or leave them black & white - it's up to you.
- Every drawing you submit becomes part of an online gallery and will be displayed on its very own page, here at the site.
- Other visitors will be able to rate and comment on your drawings.
- All drawings will be entered into our Drawing Day 2009 Slide Show.
To make it all the more interesting, all drawings submitted to this year's event also became part of the following slide show.
Here's it is...
And if you like - you can add this slide show to your own website or blog!...

To celebrate Drawing Day 2009, I decided to create new lessons for the site in light of such a special occasion. Originally - the plan was to create 'as many as possible'. But really, it takes time to make every new lesson - each one differing in complexity - the Ice Dragon taking by far the most time!
All in all - it was tons of fun, and well worth the while. Five new lessons for Drawing Day - and five new lessons up on the site.
Here they are:
How to Draw SpockLearn how to draw Spock - Leonard Nemoy style - and giving the famous Vulcan Salute!
Ice Dragon Drawing LessonThere's no shortage of imagination here. Get uber-creative and draw a unique-looking Ice Dragon!
Cartoon KangarooDrawing a cartoon kangaroo is fairly simple. Here, let's draw a mother... a baby in her pouch.
How to Draw a FishLearning how to draw a fish - simple and cartoony like this Rainbow Trout -- is easy to do!
How to Draw Peter Griffin BIG Family Guy fan? Great! Here, take a moment to learn how to draw Peter Griffin!
Thank you very much to all participants. :-)
