Draw a Prawn from the Movie - District 9
The aliens in the movie District 9 - are called 'Prawns'. Very highly detailed - with so many intricate parts to make up the creature, it was a bit of a challenge to come up with the above likeness.
Really though - I had tons of fun creating this lesson. Fueled by plain old creativity!, you'll notice I've really changed things up a lot here. Sure, it resembles the Prawns - but I've gone ahead and cartoonified it to the point where well... it's very unique to my own drawing style.
In your case - do the same! Let's see how creative you can get with your Prawn!
First Step - Draw a Framework Your District 9 Prawn
To kick things off - draw a simple framework similar to how I've done below. Notice how I've used simple shapes to outline the core shape of the alien.
Here's how it looks...
The orange ovals are helpful too. Add whichever extra details you need to... and remember to keep things light at this point. It's only a guideline for the actual drawing.

Second Step - Draw the Head of Your Alien
The prawns in District 9 are really cool-looking aliens. But as cool as they may look, drawing something so detailed isn't always easy. Especially when we're trying to make it look close enough to the original to still resemble how it actually looks.
Here with the head - starting from the center out... use the following steps to come up with your own likeness to the ones in the movie.
Like this...
Another look at the alien and I think we could redo the portion just under the eyes. The cheeks should actually extend out into long narrow projections - similar to how the shoulders look. Make the changes if you like. Or then again - make it completely different!
Next it's on to the body...
Third Step - Draw the Body of Your Prawn
Head in place, now it's time to draw the body of your prawn. Use the framework to help you here... positioning the various components can be tricky - but thanks to some well-placed shapes and lines before-hand, you've got a bit of an advantage.
Here's how to the body takes shape... pay close attention to sequence here!
Pretty wild... in the final two phases, you can see how I've re-traced my route, and redesigned (added more detail) to various parts of the character. And while it can be a bit tedious to do so - it's definitely worth it in the end! Thanks Jordan, for recommending I do this one!
