Issue #006 - Celebrate Drawing Day!

Well, here we are again for another issue of Draw Cartoons Today!

There are definitely some new and exciting things I'd like to share with you... please take a look at the list below so that you know what's being covered:

1. Drawing Day 2008 - Cartoon Drawing Gallery!

2. Newsletter Mail Out Time Change

3. New & Future Lesson Categories

4. Video Lesson Feedback

5. Two New Cool Drawing Sites!

6. New Cartoon Drawing Lessons for May

And first up - the first-ever world-wide and web-wide Drawing Day!...

1. Drawing Day 2008 - Cartoon Drawing Gallery!

Only a few days away now, Drawing Day 2008 will be taking place all over the world and all over the Internet.

This coming Saturday, June 7th, participate in the big event by dropping everything and drawing for sake of art!

There are many ways that you can participate. The first step is to of course - create drawings. Then, submit your drawings to art communities on the Internet.

Here at How-to-Draw-Cartoons-Online.com, there will be a unique event held on Saturday, June the 7th in support and celebration of Drawing Day. So please, do take part!

To take part in the event, please create and upload your very own cartoon drawings to the 'Cartoon Drawing Gallery'. The Gallery will be a collection of drawings presented in a revolving, never ending, slide show for all the world to see!

Here are some tips for creating and submitting your drawings:

- Make them uniquely yours

- Put a solid effort into your work

- Color is nice but not necessary

- Upload as many as you like

- Don't worry about size

- Keep your drawings tasteful

- Give it a title and add your name

- Have fun!

All in all, by uploading your drawings you not only get to take part in the first-ever world-wide event celebrating your passion for drawing, but also... show your drawings off to the rest of the world! (and yes... I'll put some of mine up too!) :-)

The Cartoon Drawing Gallery will 'go live' this Saturday, June the 7th. To learn more about it, and to learn more about Drawing Day 2008, please follow this link...

2. Newsletter Mail Out Time Change

I've decided to change the Draw Cartoons Today! mail out time.

Originally, newsletters would go out on the first day of every month. However, I would much rather send them out at some point during the first week of every month during the middle of the week.

So, from this point on - please look forward to receiving new (and still monthly) issues of the newsletter during the first week of each month, and not necessarily on the first day.

It may just be a bit more of a 'surprise' when you receive it! :-)

3. New & Future Lesson Categories

Two new cartoon drawing lesson categories have been added to the site - both which were very popular back when the initial 'new category vote' took place.

Now you've got Cartoon Elements - up with five lessons already listed, and Cartoon Dinosaurs - a sure winner by far! The T-Rex will be the first of the dinosaurs in this category and will be available as a lesson very soon!

In an ongoing effort to improve the quality (and quantity!) of the site, I ask that you please take the time to share your thoughts by selecting your favorite potential new category from the list at the following link. Or if you like, suggest a new idea of your own:

4. Video Lesson Feedback

Thank you once again to everyone who provided feedback on the three 'trial' video lessons posted at the beginning of May.

My goal is to create video lessons that are truly effective in helping you with drawing. The feedback is much appreciated and I will consider it when reviewing and finalizing the first three, as well as other video lessons yet to come.

Be on the lookout for improved (and new) video lessons in June!

5. New Cool Drawing Sites!

Aside from DrawingDay.org as the latest addition, two other new sites have been added to the list.

First up, the Creativity Portal. This is an excellent site for anyone and everyone interesting in looking for new and exciting ways to express their creative side. From drawing & cartooning, to making balloon animals & origami - this site definitely has a lot to offer.

Another gem I came across is Sketch Swap. Sketch Swap is not only lots of fun - but addictive (in a good way!). Similar to ArtPad.com, Sketch Swap presents you with a large digital canvas where you can draw a picture using either your mouse or a digital tablet. Once you're finished, click on 'Submit Drawing' and swap your drawing for someone else's. Very fun... very cool!

Jeff :-)
