Issue #004 - For the Love of Drawing!

You guessed it...

Time for yet another issue of Draw Cartoons Today!

If you've visited the site recently then I'm sure you could tell I've been busy (but having lots of fun in the process!). There are plenty new drawing lessons, especially in the Cartoon Animals section.

Now before you read on, please have a look at the overview below listing the five main components of this newsletter:

1. For the Love of Drawing!

2. New Cartoon Drawing Lesson Categories

3. Sites to Practice Drawing Online

4. Video Lessons are Well on the Way!

5. New Cartoon Drawing Lessons for March

As you can see, I decided to change the format so that it's easier to follow and read.

Alright, let's begin with the first topic - For the Love of Drawing!...

1. For the Love of Drawing!

Something new at the site you may have noticed is the "Drawing Tips" section.

Basically, I've been wanting to add an area to the website where I can offer some extra advice to anyone that may be able to benefit. It's amazing just how many ideas, tips and tricks there are that can really help with your drawing skills.

The first tip is entitled "Drawing is a Passion". Basically, it talks about the driving force behind our successes in life - passion. As we all know, it's a lot easier to learn something or even get better at something if we love what we are doing. And coupled with practice (Be persistent! Be determined!), the sky's the limit.

You can check out this new addition to the site along with the first entry by clicking on the following link...

2. New Cartoon Drawing Lesson Categories

It's just about time to add another cartoon drawing lesson category to the site. And as such, I'd really like it if YOU could help me decide on what the next one will be!

Visit the voting area on the website and select the category of your choice from the form. Be sure to click on "Submit" to enter your selection.

Keep in mind too, if you'd rather the new category be something different than what is on the list, go ahead and enter your idea in the text box at the bottom of the page. Then, same thing... click on "Submit".

Right now we've got some pretty interesting suggestions. Keep them coming!

The voting period will end on April the 15th, 2008. After that, I'll post the winning category directly on the navigation bar of the site. It'll also appear in the RSS Feed, "The Cartoon Drawing Blog".

3. Sites to Practice Drawing Online

Many times, while working through the drawing lessons on the site, you'll notice that I ask you to use a pencil or a pen. Well, I do understand that many people are more than happy to use their computer to draw as well.

Knowing this, I recommend you check out ArtPad and IScribble.net.

First ArtPad. ArtPad is a great little tool that you can quickly and easily access to practice drawing (or even painting) online. It's completely free and also, you have the unique option of hitting a "replay button" to watch an instant replay of whatever you just drew. Pretty neat!

Also, check out IScribble.net. This site is especially cool because it involves many like-minded people, practicing their drawing in an interactive, online environment. At IScribble.net, you can work with other people, simultaneously drawing on the same "cyber canvas". And while working away, you have the option of chatting with the people drawing with you. Again, it's completely free!

4. Video Lessons are Well on the Way!

Well, much as I had said in the last issue, YES - video lessons are on the way!

My plan is to convert five current lessons (one from each of the five major categories) into step-by-step video lessons with audio. These lessons are meant to compliment the existing lessons that you can find on the site right now.

If you have a preference as to which lessons are first turned into video lessons, please let me know. I'll definitely consider your suggestions.
